14-19 External Knowledge Exchange Network (EKEN) Launch Event UWE 20.10.09

The WVLLN is launching a new regional initiative on 14-19 Diploma development and progression to Higher Education. Led by Kate Thomas WVLLN Progression Co-ordinator at the University of the West of England (UWE), the 14-19 External Knowledge Exchange Network (EKEN) takes place on Tuesday 20th October 2009 from 10am - 2pm at UWE, Frenchay Campus, E Block, Room 4E13 and provides an opportunity to meet others involved in Diploma development and delivery from across the region.

The 14-19 EKEN is funded by the Western Vocational Lifelong Learning Network (WVLLN) and will focus on 14-19 developments, particularly the new Diplomas, and on progression to HE in the region. EKEN aims to

  • provide a supportive network for individuals and specialists from learning providers and relevant organisations
  • promote the development and sharing of practice and where relevant, research, face-to-face and online
  • facilitate region-wide staff/professional developments and events focused on 14-19 curriculum developments and progression issues.

EKEN membership will include representatives of

  • Higher Education Institutions in the South West region
  • Local Authority 14-19 advisors and groups
  • 14-19 area partnerships and Diploma Consortia
  • Aimhigher and other regional and national organisations.

The launch event will include a briefing by the DCSF on 14-19 curriculum reforms, an update on Diplomas in the region, information on how EKEN will operate and notice of future events. Attendance at this event is free of charge, however places are limited.
